YouTube Live Digital Gift ‘Jewels’

YouTube is the latest platform to jump on board the digital gifting game by adding ‘Jewels’ to live streaming.

Users can buy ‘Jewels’ to exchange for virtual gifts to send to their favourite creators during a livestream.

The gifts that are sent will appear on screen and add to the creator’s earnings, called ‘Rubies’, valued at one cent each.

Since the cost of ‘Jewels’ can change based on promotions, there’s no fixed revenue share, meaning the amount of ‘Rubies’ earned can vary.

Creators can only receive gifts on vertical livestreams directly on YouTube, and viewers can only gift while using the mobile app.
